Home of the Opel Manta 400 R

My father bought this Ascona B brand new in 1979 which was running on a

1.2 S engine (60 ps)

I inherited the car in 2000...

Here's a few pics of it on the 13th of June 2001, when somebody crashed

into it right from behind...

Then we decided to work on it and restore its back... finally, our babe

was back on the streets, with a nice and healthy ass: http://aom.dead-inside.org/ascona/back.jpg

from the sides:

We had it from 1979 and it was in this condition up to October 2003,

which was the time I started the whole project!

The whole car was torn apart. Doors, windshields, seats, cockpit,

engine, everything was taken off the car... Only the chassis remained

and then it was about time for a good sand blast! We put anti-oxide all

over and then the car went to the metal worker who was about to work on

it (whitesmith? whatever... it's all english to me! :D )

http://aom.dead-inside.org/ascona/1.jpg (cockpit, radiator and

everything is right into that big bag that you see in the boot) http://aom.dead-inside.org/ascona/3.jpg (just tear everything apart! :D) http://aom.dead-inside.org/ascona/4.jpg

First part of the paintjob took place. Sideskirts were put on and  also

put on the first coat on'em (got'em primed? is that right in English?): http://aom.dead-inside.org/petrakhs1.jpg

sexy interior:

2nd coat, 2nd part of the paintjob... We also painted the temporary

original rims :)

there goes the 400 lines http://aom.dead-inside.org/ascona/vafh2-a.jpg

The black line too, as well as the dark-tinted backlights http://aom.dead-inside.org/ascona/vafh2-d.jpg

the black border around the doors... http://aom.dead-inside.org/ascona/vafh2-e.jpg

Here she is again :) http://aom.dead-inside.org/ascona/vafh2-f.jpg

Spoilers are on, sideskirts are on, windshield is on, front lip is on...

read to fly! http://aom.dead-inside.org/slatans_ascona_stage3_a.jpg (damn, I hate

seeing my babe dirty ... wish me bird was dirty, but not me car!!!) http://aom.dead-inside.org/slatans_ascona_stage3_b.jpg

There goes the Irmscher backspoiler with the new register plate

position, as well as the Irmscher cover for the old place of the register plate and the Irmscher bumper... damn, everything's from

Irmscher there! :) http://aom.dead-inside.org/slatans_ascona_stage3_c.jpg

there we go with another one from aside: http://aom.dead-inside.org/slatans_ascona_stage3_d.jpg

and another one, just to admire the beautiful front ;) http://aom.dead-inside.org/slatans_ascona_stage3_e.jpg

And it was about time! Around Feb. 2005, after 15 months of work on it,

she's out again on the streets! Sandblasted, "metalworked", painted,

with new tapestries inside plus all electrics completely new (wiring and

everything)!

Then the little touches of beauty started... the details: http://aom.dead-inside.org/slatans_ascona_stage4_a.jpg

here she is, clean, washed and sexy: http://aom.dead-inside.org/slatans_ascona_stage4_b.jpg

There come the new rims too (altho also temporary, but better lookin

than them 13" original ones) : http://aom.dead-inside.org/slatans_ascona_stage5_a.jpg

http://aom.dead-inside.org/slatans_ascona_stage5_b.jpg

http://aom.dead-inside.org/slatans_ascona_stage5_c.jpg

Here she is with the original backlights (not the tinted ones) so that

we could get our MOT, hehehe http://aom.dead-inside.org/slatans_ascona_stage5_d.jpg

First poses start... http://aom.dead-inside.org/slatans_ascona_stage5_e.jpg

http://aom.dead-inside.org/slatans_ascona_stage5_f.jpg

4-point harness belts are on too and the cockpit was all under a new

leather-like material (can't translate that, sorry hehe). http://aom.dead-inside.org/slatans_ascona_stage5_internal_a.jpg

http://aom.dead-inside.org/slatans_ascona_stage5_internal_b.jpg

There we go with the 2.0 S (CIH) engine :) ... Bye bye 1.2 S (managed to

brake that engine with 160 km/h lol - that's about 115 miles I think?) http://aom.dead-inside.org/slatans_ascona_stage6_a.jpg

http://aom.dead-inside.org/slatans_ascona_stage6_b.jpg

http://aom.dead-inside.org/slatans_ascona_stage6_c.jpg

Finally, here goes the little fog lights on the spoiler! :) http://www.opel-club.gr/uploads/files/slatans_ascona_stage6_e.jpg

http://www.opel-club.gr/uploads/files/slatans_ascona_stage6_f.jpg

and a better, more suitable exhaust pipe... http://www.opel-club.gr/uploads/files/slatans_ascona_stage6_g.jpg

And that's how it looks like at the moment! Still a lot of work to be done! Oh, I also put Engelmann-look (imitation) mirrors... should put the

original ones on... oh well, those ones ain't so bad either...

I now intend to buy a good LSD... and for the nearby future a good pair

of Webers DCOE (40s)... The car will remain untouched for about a year

since I have to serve the army in May and the military service will last

for 12 months. After that, a good set of rims (if not earlier, that is,

very soon), a good I.C.E. will be purchased, door panels will be made

out of polyester for the speakers and they will also be covered in

leather (not exactly leather, you name it! oh well, whatever). I intend

to buy another Ascona too (2-door this time) or a Manta B or a '68 Opel

GT... time will tell! (was JUST about to buy one, but changed me mind

last minute and thought "buy an LSD first!")

Hope you like the pics! I will also send some footage soon if you want!

Greetings from Greece, as well as from the Greek Opel Club!
