1988 Lotus Esprit Turbo rebuilt by NELSON STEWART 2000-2002

I count myself very lucky to have attained some of my dreams, such as this car. Timeless supercar looks, the thrust of Lotus turbo power and handling that begs for more roundabouts in the world.

Within minutes of collecting it in Southampton, I was on the motorway with a smile the width of the car. On the journey to Blackpool to get the ferry, 3 TVR’s, a ferrari 355 and an XK8 flashed their lights at me and every Subaru Impreza WRC and Mitsubishi Evo I came accross backed off when it came up behind them.

Thats quite a presence on the road. I had the use of a 911 briefly, beautiful car, but in comparison it was totally ignored most of the time and you could hear the little jap turbo cars dropping a gear if you tried to pass. With the Lotus I get a hand built British sports car with Giugaro design influences and what a great feeling to sit in traffic and watch someones kids climb onto the parcel shelf of their parents car to get a better look (you can see their lips forming the word ‘L a m b o.....’! Well, close enough I suppose......)

The Esprit takes me to another level, into Supercars.......check out the ‘before’ pictures to get an idea of what work i carried out on this car.     Nelson

The engine bay panels were a little ‘tired’ so I remade the side ones and covered the rest in carbon fibre. Its not quite finished here and some panels have still to be added, but it is starting to look how I wanted. If you can wait for it to load, there is a more detailed picture at the bottom. The engine was rebuilt, the coilovers changed for adjustable all round, steering and gear links and joints changed throughout, repaired and recoloured the leather interior and made matching caron fibre panels, then a respray . . . . . .
